Be Deck-adent

When it comes to a quality job, you can't beat Scandinavian redwood decking for its lasting impact and durability.

From anti-slip deck strips, which can also be fitted retrospectively, to balustrades and newel posts. We've put together a full guide to decking which you can get at your local MGM Timber depot.

Only the Best will Do

Timber is broadly classified into two groups: softwoods and hardwoods. The terms do not actually relate to the relative hardness of the wood but to the type of tree from which it comes.

Softwood species come from evergreen coniferous trees, hardwoods from broad leaved trees.

Within each group there are many different species of wood. Some are suitable for decking, some are not.

The key factor in selecting wood for use out-of-doors is durability - its ability to resist the conditions that give rise to decay (i.e. wood will start to decay when its moisture content is persistently above 22%).

Scandinavian redwoods are slow grown, which improves their durability and their appearance, delivering a quality decking job.

Decked to the Hilt

A quality decking job is not just about the decking, but the bigger picture. Go to town with the full selection of accessories available at MGM Timber including spindles, newel posts, woods stains, decking screws, weed barrier, oils and preservatives, not to mention the very innovative slip resistant decking strips from Hoppings which are incredibly popular.

If you are being decadent, be sure to select the best timber for the job.

Some species of wood have a natural ability to resist decay completely; others have varying degrees of natural durability and may require treatment.

Whether you are an old pro, or new to decking, this inspirational video series by Metsa Wood, one of our key suppliers, will tell you everything you needed to know about decking and more.

VELUX New Generation

They said they were making the best even better. And it's true: they have.

VELUX's New Generation of frames comes with three key features that are guaranteed to have an impact.

Let the sun shine! The new external frame sizes are the same, but the glazed area has been extended letting in an incredible 18% more light than its predecessor. Ventilation and operation control have been improved and, for those of us who like gizmos, you won't be disappointed with their new programmable touch screen control pad for the INTEGRA line.

In fact, on a level playing field with Apple in their clever use of technology, VELUX's new control bar even features a background ventilation position that lets fresh air in even when the window is securely closed.

But those clever VELUX engineers haven't stopped there, expert design has resulted in superior energy efficiency through improved insulation.

Not only that, but the whole range just looks fantastic. Sleek, curvy and instantly desirable.

So, if you are looking for a roof top solution that has some serious blue sky thinking behind it, look no further.
